NEXCEF®  INJECTION 1g

  • It is a brand of ceftazidime.

  • It is a 3rd generation cephalosporin antibiotic.

  • It has  broad spectrum activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.

  • Unlike most 3rd generation agents it has activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

  • It however has a weaker activity against Gram positive microorganisms.

     

    INDICATION

  • Severe infections in general.

  • Respiratory tract infections.

  • Severe ear, nose and throat infections.

  • Urinary tract infections.

  • Skin & soft tissue infections.

  • Gastrointestinal & abdominal infections.

  • Bone & joint infections.

     

    DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION

    Adults

  • 1 – 6 g/ day in 2 or 3 divided doses by IV or IM injection.

  • UTI & less severe infections: 500mg, 1g or 2g given12 hourly by IV or IM injection.

     

     Infants & children

  • > 12 months = 25 – 100 mg/kg/day (max. of 6g/ day) given as 2 or 3 divided doses.

             Neonates & Infants (0 – 2 months)

    • 25 – 100 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses.

           Use in the elderly

    In view of the reduced clearance of ceftazidime in elderly patients, the daily dosage should be   adjusted according to renal function.
